    Selby Targets Silverware
World Champion Mark Selby is looking to carry his momentum into the new season.
Selby will be at the Kaspersky Riga Masters next week having beaten Akani Songsermsawad in the qualifying round.
Less than two months ago, Selby won his second Crucible crown, beating Ding Junhui 18-14 in the final. And he is determined to add more silverware during the 2016/17 campaign.
“My target is just to win more tournaments, get more ranking titles on my CV and carry on competing at the top level,” said the world number one from Leicester. “I practise hard for every tournament and give it 100 per cent.”
Selby admits that he triumphed in Sheffield despite only producing his best in brief spells. “I played one good session in the quarter-finals, one good one in the semis and then the final I felt I played well from start to finish. Other than that I was quite ropey. But it’s all about winning matches,” he said.
“If I’m not playing well I can grind it out and win. You’re not going to play your A Game all the time. To have won the world title twice makes me feel very proud. It hasn’t really sunk in yet.”

Williams – My Glory Days Are Over
Mark Williams is now playing his 25th professional season but insists his days of winning titles are gone.
The two-time World Champion from Wales heads to Latvia this week for the first ranking event of the campaign – the Kaspersky Riga Masters. World number 13 Williams performed impressively in the qualifiers in Preston this month, also making it to the final stages of the Indian Open and World Open.

But the 41-year-old from Cwm, whose last ranking title came at the 2011 German Masters, said: “I’m rubbish compared to what I used to be. I’m still in the top 16 but sometimes I laugh at myself and wonder how. “I play a couple of good matches here and there, but if I had to say honestly whether I though I could win tournament again I’d say probably not.
“I was more than happy to win all three qualifying matches. The more events you are in the more chance you have of going on a run. Last season I played in every tournament, though this season I might miss a few here and there.”

    Dafabet Extend Masters Sponsorship
Dafabets title sponsorship of snooker’s most prestigious invitation tournament has been extended for an extra three years.
Dafabet has been the sponsor of the Masters since 2014 and this new extension brings the agreement to 2020.
The Dafabet Masters is one of the sports Triple Crown events and it is known for its elite field as it brings together the top 16 players in the world. It has a rich history dating back to 1975, and now boasts a top prize of £200,000, the biggest outside the World Championship.
The 2017 event runs from January 15 to 22 at Alexandra Palace in North London, its home since 2012.
Last season’s Dafabet Masters was won by crowd favourite Ronnie O’Sullivan who thrashed Barry Hawkins 10-1 in the final to win the title for the sixth time, equalling the record set by Stephen Hendry. Other winners in recent years include Shaun Murphy, Neil Robertson, Mark Selby and Ding Junhui.

The BBC-televised tournament is broadcast live in 89 countries, reaching hundreds of millions of viewers around the world.

Wilson Withdraws Due To Blood Clot Concern
Kyren Wilson has revealed that concerns over a possible blood clot in his left leg caused him to pull out of this week’s Kaspersky Riga Masters.
Shanghai Masters champion Wilson qualified for the season’s first ranking event by beating Anthony Parsons, but then withdrew on the eve of the tournament in Latvia.

“It’s not down to illness or anything like that but it’s a possible blood clot in my leg,” world number 16 Wilson told the Northamptonshire Telegraph.
“I suffer with bad circulation in my left leg and I got back from my honeymoon in Spain and got to my wife’s parents’ house in Wales and her dad pointed out the swelling and my foot had pretty much doubled in size.
“I found a lump in the back of my leg, which I was a bit concerned about but I got it checked out on Tuesday, which was the day I was I supposed to be flying out.
“The doctor wasn’t 100 per cent confident that it was a blood clot so I set out for the airport but as I got close, my leg was throbbing so I just turned round and came home. Hopefully it will settle down in time for the Indian Open.”

Crucible Snooker Tickets Close To Sell Out
Tickets for snooker’s Betfred World Championship have virtually sold out, ten months before the tournament starts.
The box office at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield opened in May, with the majority of seats for the 2017 event selling within a few hours.
Next year’s tournament runs from April 15 to May 1 and there are only a few tickets remaining for selected sessions.

Snooker’s other two Triple Crown tournaments, the Betway UK Championship in York (November 22 to December 4) and the Dafabet Masters in London (January 15-22) are also selling fast with certain sessions close to capacity.
World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn said: “The ticket sales for our major BBC-televised Triple Crown events are staggering and this just underlines how lucky you are if you have secured a seat already. The World Championship, the UK Championship and the Masters are at the very pinnacle of British sport.
“Tickets for the World Championship in particular are like gold dust. We recently announced a new deal to keep the event in Sheffield for another ten years. Anyone who has the opportunity to go to Sheffield, York or London and see the very best players on the planet competing for the biggest titles must take advantage. Snooker has developed into a huge global sport and British fans must realise how fortunate they are to have the biggest events on their doorstep.”
