Best thing is to buy a (new) Sky+HD box off eBay. Then simply call Sky and tell them you already have a dish and a box and only need a viewing card. They will need a UK adress (which probably won't be an issue for you). You don't need a UK bank account - you can pay via Credit Card.

They will send the viewing card to the adress - you let it get forwarded to your adress in Hamburg. When you got it, call them again and let them activate the subscription (viewing card must be in box and the box must be turned on - satellite reception of 28,2°E is required!).

If they ask for your phone connection (this is normally necessary to make the callback, to activate the card), simply tell them, that you don't have a landline anymore - only mobile phone. Then they probably will do the activation without a callback. If the guy on the other end makes any trouble, simply call again and talk to another agent. They WILL do it. I've done it before.

Oh and one important thing: when you call Sky from Germany - ALWAYS (!!!) make sure your caller ID is hidden, so you call them anonymous. Otherwhise you might get problems.


One last thing:
you do know, that lots of channels like BBC one HD, BBC two, ITV1 HD, Channel 4, FIVE, BBC HD, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, E4, more4, Film4 are FREE - so you wouldn't need a Sky subscription to watch them? Simply get a regular HD receiver (you could even buy that in Germany) and point your dish to 28,2°E and you will get all those channels for free.

But if you want Sky1 HD, LIVING HD, FX HD, Comedy Central HD, Discovery HD, National Geographic HD, Sky Movies, Sky Sports, ESPN, Disney Channel, Nickelondeon HD and all these great channels, then you need a Sky subscription and a Sky+HD box. Just so you know...

"It makes no difference, the call will be marked 'International' - but so are many calls from other UK networks and mobiles, Sky stopped paying any attention to caller ID when they became a Telecoms provider.

If they do query the number you're calling from (which they won't), just tell them you are ringing from a mobile.

Just don't tell them you're ringing from Germany, as that will instantly get you cancelled. "

I would block the caller ID anyway - just as a percaution.

Seems you solved that problem already beside the technical details is another aspect , did you life in your own house or just in a flat for rent ; in last case you may get in trouble - did you have free sight to 28.2° sat position and also permission to install a dish ?
