Launch of MetOp – Europe’s First Polar Orbit Weather Satellite
17 July 2006 – 17:30-20:30 CEST
The ESA TV Service is ensuring the live broadcast of ESA’s most important events
on the Eutelsat HOT BIRD satellite, using a digital transponder that enables every
European with a digital satellite receiver and an antenna pointing at 13 degrees east,
to follow these events.
The Hot Bird downlinks details are:
Eutelsat Hot Bird at 13 degrees east,
Hot Bird 7A, Transponder 18, vertical,
F=11541 MS/sec, SR=22000 MS/sec FEC=5/6,
Channel id "Eutelsat"
Starting 15 July 2006, an event identification is broadcast on this satellite channel.
This makes it possible to set up the equipment and tune the receiver onto the right
channel.
The schedule of the live transmission is as follows (all times in CEST):
17:30–18:00 Welcome speeches by ESA, Eumetsat and Arianespace officials
18:00-18:15 Break – Weather and Ambience images
18:15-18:45 Live launch coverage until Fregat upper stage extinction
from ESOC Main Control Room and Baikonur, lift-off at 18:28 hours
18:45-19:00 Break– Weather and Ambience images
19:00-19:20 Presentations on space meteorology
19:20-19:35 Break– Weather and Ambience images
19:35-19:45 Live coverage of injection of MetOp into orbit (19:37 hours)
19:44-20:15 Break– Weather and Ambience images
20:15-20:30 Live coverage of solar array deployment and statements by
Officials from ESOC and Baikonur
Please note that the transmission is in 3 Mbit/sec. For broadcasters, the programme is
also made available on Eutelsat W2, as a satellite feed in full broadcast quality, i.e.
