Sports streaming company DAZN has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights to Serie A in France for the upcoming 2025/26 season.
DAZN will show every Serie A match, as well as the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana tournaments, in France, Monaco and Andorra. It will also show highlights of games about an hour after games come to an end, in the form of two to three minutes clips.

France’s Professional Football League (LFP) has finalised plans to launch in-house direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming platform for Ligue 1, hoping a more attractive €14.99 price point will help it attract subscribers following a series of failed broadcast deals.

‘Ligue 1+’ will launch in 15th August, exclusively broadcasting eight live games a week. The remaining fixture will be shown on a delayed basis, with current broadcast partner BeIN Sports retaining its allocation of one live game shown on Saturday evenings.

In addition, Ligue 1+ will broadcast the Trophée des Champions, the relegation playoffs and the two final match weeks, which sees all nine games played simultaneously. For the opening weekend, the platform will live stream the game between Nantes and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on 17th August for free.

Coverage of games will be led by a group of French soccer journalists, including Xavier Domergue and Marina Lorenzo, while Benoît Cheyrou was confirmed as the first pundit for the channel.

Two magazine shows will also air on the channel, with all programming production to be handled by media conglomerate Mediawan. A pair of docuseries have also been confirmed for the platform, with one to focus on OGC Nice captain Dante, and another to revolve around promoted club Paris FC. Planning for other shows, including a children’s programme and broadcasts focused on esports, are also underway.

An annual subscription will cost €14.99 (US$17.50) per month, a month-to-month plan will be €19.99 (US$23.33) and viewers under 26 years old will receive a discounted offer of €9.99 (US$11.66). The service is €14.99 for those who just want to watch on mobile, tablet or on PC.

The LFP hopes to attract at least one million subscribers by the end of the 2025/26 campaign, and has confirmed the total cost of launching the channel would be around €66 million (US$77 million). After four years, the service hopes to have at least between 2.2 million and 2.5 million subscribers.

Ligue 1+ will be distributed by telecoms provider Orange, Bouygues Telecom, Free and SFR. Sports streaming company DAZN, which previously showed Ligue 1 games exclusively before ending its deal after one season, will also carry the channel. Ligue 1+ will additionally be available on over-the-top (OTT) platforms. Canal+, which aired Ligue 1 between 1984 and 2024, has not signed up, however.

Nicolas De Tavernost, LFP Media chief executive, said the league remained in talks with other providers and that the door was always open to a deal with Canal+.

Speaking to journalists, LFP president Vincent Labrune insisted that there were “a lot of indicators that are positive” for the league, despite it now being forced to launch a DTC service after DAZN’s €400 million (US$467.1 million)-a-year deal collapsed.

“We have greatly reduced our Ligue 1 clubs’ dependence on domestic rights,” said Labrune, as reported by RMC Sport.

“We have club owners who are ready and who have all endorsed this channel project, which is a medium- to long-term project, because they have the means to cope with one or two years without domestic rights. We must stop thinking that Ligue 1 will collapse because there are no domestic rights.

“Last year, there were few domestic rights, and we broke all our Uefa points records, we won almost 50 per cent of our Champions League matches. It’s not domestic rights that make our league competitive.

“The channel is risky, it’s not easy, but it’s exciting. It’s an adventure and it’s disruptive. We said we wanted to create an innovative league. French football also means launching your own product.”
