hmn but the south/north difference is important too i think: The beam on www.ses-astra.com is false but its a circle and south of salzburg /munich it gets smaller

A guy from Klagenfurt tried a 1.2 dish without success: Klagenfurt is 14.3 east they'll probably need 1.5 at least. As Beiti said, or was it Terranus? Every mile east counts - the signal gets weaker and weaker.

In Arnoldstein you might just be lucky with a 1.5 but go for 1.8 and you'll be pretty safe. I hope to see my forecasts confirmed by some clear test results.

If you compare the lines on the footprints, you'll see that they bend westerly at the edge of the Austrian border. There's a guy in Belluno and another in Mestre/Venice who reported reception on 1.2 meter dishes in a forum on Astra2d.co.uk

Don't worry, just write in your own language. I can read and understand but because I have not had much formal German I am not confident to write much, and I don't need it on the job, so winken

You are doing fine.

As to St Gilgen, I feel the 30 kms east may mean a dish needs to be about 10 cm larger than one in Braunau to get the same signal strenght and quality. That would be 30 km real distance rather than road distance which might translate into perhaps just over 20 kms by air unless it's a straight motorway between Salzburg and St Gilgen. Sorry I am not familiar enough with the geography.

However, 1.5 metre dishes are not too expensive and you'll be receiving the Beeb etc. Many people in Graz here have lost both signals and hope because they live in flats and cannot fit 2m dishes.

HMn might be right that the 30km is not the air difference. Its the street difference and the air way might be 10 km shorter breites_
