Musste ja leider schmerzlich feststellen, dass ich an keine Karte herankomme, die mir den Zugang zu itv und channel 4 ermöglicht (jedenfalls nicht ohne sky abo).

Jetzt kommt aber wohl Bewegung in den Markt, denn Sky plant einen Angriff auf freeview (dem digitalen teresstrischen programm).

Allerdings heißt "Freesat" nicht, dass es FTA sein wird. Die Verschlüsselung wird bleiben.

Wie kommst du darauf?
Es geht doch gerade darum potentielle Kunden anzusprechen, die bisher nicht bereit wwaren 13,50 GBP im Monat ausgeben. Wenn sie freewview konkurrenz machen wollen, dann ja wohl mit einem nichtabo angebot.

Im Media Bulletin UK heißt es:

BSkyB's free-to-air television service, dubbed Freesat and seen as a rival to the BBC's Freeview, will launch in October, according to its chief executive, James Murdoch.

BSkyB has high hopes for the free satellite service, which it hopes will be an important source of subscriber revenue in years to come. It was the first major initiative revealed by Murdoch since he took over as chief executive from Tony Ball in November last year.

Ich denke auch ziemlich sicher, daß es eine Codierung geben wird, nur dann eben ohne monatliche Gebühren, quasi FTV, wie bei C4, five etc.

Anderweitig könnte man ja sonst jede Box einsetzen und das wird Sky nicht wollen....

Aber letztlich werden wir es dann erst sehen, wenn das Ganze auf Sendung gegangen ist.

Wobei sich diese 150 Pfund wohl auf das Equipment beziehen:

The system, which will cost users a one off fee of £150 would give them a Sky box and aerial that would give them free access to about 116 channels including all the normal terrestrial channels and a further 80 radio stations.

FreeSat, as some pundits in the industry are already calling is will carry no monthly subscription fee but will be open to customers being able to upgrade packages similar to the TopUp TV system currently running on freeview.

So sieht es aus! Die Briten sind über Sat nicht wirklich an echte FTA-Kanäle gewoht, sehen wir von Shoppingsendern mal ab, und jetzt die BBC. Sie sind vielmehr an Pay-TV und FTV-Kanäle gewohnt bzw gebunden. So wird jetzt nun die FTV-Schiene ausgebaut, anders macht ja auch hierfür die Vermarktung der Sky Digibox wenig Sinn, es könnten ja sonst diverse FTA-Boxen verwendet werden. Ein großer Teil des neuen Pakets wird FTV codiert sein, ein kleiner Anteil davon vielleicht uncodiert, wie so manches ja jetzt auch schon.

From October, Sky will be responding by marketing a free satellite service, with the working title of Freesat. For £150, customers will get a dish, encryption card and installation of the service, consisting of more than 100 TV channels, including most of the Freeview offering. There is also a raft of radio channels and inter active services, and, like Freeview, once people make the initial purchase there will be nothing else to pay.

What you won’t read in the marketing bumf is that this is mostly old rope. If you buy a dish, which Sky currently sells and installs for £120, you can already get most of the TV and radio channels that will comprise Freesat, with no obligation to pay a monthly subscription to any additional Sky packages. The main differences with the new deal will be the interactive services and access to the digital versions of ITV, Channel 4 and Five, which are only available on digital satellite if you take a Sky package. Otherwise, this is just a sales push.
